Remember when the first Rubik's cube came out?  I do.  I also remember when those horrible smart kids at my school figured out how to solve it first. Shortly after that, a friend showed me how to take it apart and put it back together finished.  Once again I could be a legend in my own mind.

Of course, that was back in the days before personal computers and the internet.  That could have really levelled the playing field for me with my brainy friends and Mr. Rubik's cube.  I would have just surfed to this page and solved my puzzle easily.

The only thing that bugs me is that this page was probably made by one of those horrible smart kids all grown up like me.  When will they stop robbing my life of all the joy!  May their solar powered calculators only have cloudy days.  Oh yeah, THEY don't need calculators . . . . aaaaaaah!

A deputy police officer responded to a report of a barroom disturbance. 

The "disturbance" turned out to be well over six feet tall and weighed almost 300 pounds.  What's more, he boasted that he could whip the deputy and the "Heavy Weight Boxing Champion of the World."

Said the policeman, "I'll bet that you're also an escape artist too, probably better than Houdini."

The giant nodded.

"If I had some chains," the deputy continued, "you could show us how strong you really are.  But all I've got is a set of handcuffs.  Why don't you see just how quickly you can break out of them?" Once in the cuffs, the man puffed, pulled and jerked for four minutes.

"I can't get out of these," the giant growled.

"Are you sure?" the deputy asked.

The fellow tried again.  "Nope," he replied.  "I can't do it."

"In that case," said the deputy, "you're under arrest."

"Bob, why don't you play golf with John anymore?" asked a friend.

"Would you play golf with a guy who moved the ball with his foot when you weren't watching?" Bob asked.

"Well, no," admitted the friend.

"Neither will John," replied Bob.

Don't let the title fool you.  This page is not about taking a bus to the moon (a slow but simple trip since there are no transfers to be made once you leave the earth's atmosphere).

I feel sorry for the moon.  It can't get away with anything without being watched by someone.  Wolves watch it, dogs howl at it, lovers gaze at it, and the tabloids continue to spread rumors about it being made of cheese. It can't even get hit with a meteorite without it being filmed and neither can if simply fly through space without some satellite watching it.  For instance, here is some video from NASA's STEREO B satellite.  It's pretty cool - but it figures NASA would have a cool stereo.

In the admitting office of our hospital, some patients were filling out forms, others were being interviewed and still others were being escorted to their rooms.

An elderly woman hesitatingly entered my cubicle.  She had completed her admitting forms and, upon my request, handed me her insurance cards.  I typed the neccessary information and then asked her the reason for her coming to the hospital.

"Just to visit a friend," she said, "but this had taken so long, I'm not sure I have time now."

The SPCA rescued Maggie from Manitoba's Red River flood in 1996 and brought her to British Columbia where she had two short term owners before becoming a part of the Davis household where she preferred adults over kids, picked and ate fruit from trees in the backyard, and very rarely went into water at the beach.
