Sunday greetings, everyone.

I am returning to my former church today to lead a memorial service for a lady who passed away back in November 2020. I am finding that the time delay is casting a very different perspective for my feelings as I prepare to speak. I am still sad she is gone, but the absence of the shock of recent loss is putting her long begun eternal life with Jesus in a less complicated light.

One of the painful parts of losing a loved one is that we know they get over their leaving so much faster than we who are left behind. Of course we want them to be happy where they are, but that is hard to fully embrace and rest in when we are so still so overwhelmingly sad. It's a conundrum that results from Jesus wiping away their tears so much quicker than our own. For those of us left in this world, we must suffer waiting for time to diminish some of our grief.

Contrary to the idea that the older you get, the more you forget, it has never been my experience. I have forgotten things for as long as I can remember. I even forget things that never actually happened. 

It runs in our family, though it came to me legitimately down through the generations. A nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.

As a young person, I was quite fascinated with uncle Fred. Everybody who knew him called him Sir Forgets-A-Lot. At the time, I didn’t know what they were talking about because good old uncle Fred seemed like a very nice guy.
