Resurrection Sunday greetings, everyone - the Lord is risen!

the plateSusan and I pray the God will bless you and yours on this day when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. He died to pay the price of our sins so that all who trust in that sacrifice alone can be alive to God just as He is today!

Today's video share is a repeat, but an appropriate one for today: The Plate.

Missionary Mimicking

crowd clappingA new missionary recruit went to Venezuela for the first time. He was struggling with the language and didn't understand a whole lot of what was going on. Intending to visit one of the local churches, he got lost, but eventually got back on track and found the place. Having arrived late, the church was already packed. The only pew left was the one on the front row.

So as not to make a fool of himself, he decided to pick someone out of the crowd to imitate. He chose to follow the man sitting next to him on the front pew. As they sang, the man clapped his hands, so the missionary recruit clapped too. When the man stood up to pray, the missionary recruit stood up too. When the man sat down, he sat down.

When the man held the cup and bread for the Lord's Supper, he held the cup and bread. During the preaching, the recruit didn't understand a thing. He just sat there and tried to look just like that man in the front pew. Then he perceived that the preacher was giving announcements. People clapped, so he looked to see if the man was clapping. He was, and so the recruit clapped too.

Then the preacher said some words that he didn't understand and he saw the man next to him stand up. So he stood up too. Suddenly a hush fell over the entire congregation. A few people gasped. He looked around and saw that nobody else was standing. So he sat down.

After the service ended, the preacher stood at the door shaking the hands of those who were leaving. When the missionary recruit stretched out his hand to greet the preacher, the preacher said, in English: "I take it you don't speak Spanish."

The missionary recruit replied: "No I don't. It's that obvious?"

"Well yes," said the preacher, "I announced that the Acosta family had a newborn baby boy and would the proud father please stand up."

Dying

child girl 1The Sunday School teacher was speaking to her class one morning and she asked the question, "When you die and go to Heaven...which part of your body goes first?"

Emma raised her hand and said, "I think it's your hands."

"Why do you think it's your hands, Emma?"

Emma replied, "Because when you pray, you hold your hands together in front of you and so I think God just takes your hands first."

Dancing the Critter Bug Shuffle

lizard 3I must confess that I do have a liking for critters of all kinds. I enjoy feeding them out on the back porch, and boy, do they come hungry for their treats.

Two cats born in our garage are still hanging around. They come morning, noon, and night for their treats. In the morning, they like to come and have me scratch their head. I’m not sure what that has to do with anything, but I’m willing to scratch their head if that’s what they want.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

flapping birdI had a major win at work this week! There was something I needed to learn to do in order to get one web server to transfer 500 gigabytes of files to another web server, with both web servers being who knows where in the world, lol. The actual "how" to do it was really bending my brain and then I realized that one of my team might be better suited for that. So I left it with one of my employees (who is 30 years younger than me) and he figure it out and showed me how to do it.

The major win for me is not that the problem was figured out and the data is being transferred. It is that I am learning to get out of the way and let others do things they are better at than me in my business. I can't spend/hire my way out of all my problems, but it sure is nice that I can with some of them!

Today's video share shows a cool effect when a bird's wings flapping in synced with a security camera's frame rate.
You can watch the video here.

Enjoy the rest of today's mailing.

Child Safety

child toddler 1I recall a time when my son was about 18 months old. I had him strapped into a backpack and was rushing to catch the bus. Apparently I mis-stepped and fell down an entire flight of stairs (13 to be exact). I was bruised and bleeding and had torn my jeans ... but my main concern was, naturally, for my child.

My fears were alleviated, though, when from behind me I heard a gleeful giggle followed by, "Again!"

Susan Page writes . . . .

Grace

swan- photo by Susan PageI have always loved the word grace. It sounds so, well … graceful.

It reminds me of the pure white swans that I love to photograph. The word is elegant, as is the swan.

Grace, God’s grace, freely bestowed, amazing grace. How sweet does that sound? We all know the hymn so well, but there is another old hymn that has always soothed my soul.

catmelonhead150x127.jpgOver the years, some of the most popular pages on the Cybersalt site have featured Funny Cat Pictures. We have to admit that even though cats often look at humans like they owe the feline world something (remember dogs have owners and cats have staff), cats aren't as bad as a lot of the press that they get.

And so, whether you are a cat lover or tolerator, we hope you enjoy these funny cat pictures. And, of course, if you have any funny cat pictures you want to share with the world, feel free to send them to us to post here.

dog_maggie.jpgSome say the world can be divided into two types - cat people and dog people. For the cat people of the planet, Cybersalt has the Funny Cat Archive. For the dog people we have this Funny Dog Pictures archive.

It's dedicated to the memory of Maggie - Pastor Tim and family's dog. The SPCA rescued Maggie from Manitoba's Red River flood in 1996 and brought her to British Columbia where she had two short term owners before becoming a part of the Davis household where she preferred adults over kids, picked and ate fruit from trees in the backyard, and very rarely went into water at the beach.
