Sunday greetings, everyone!

Grandma Cybersalt and I were at a wedding reception last night. The couple, Elijah and Emily, had a guest book and polaroid cameras for taking pictures to put next to where we signed. You know you are getting older when you can actually remember when throwback technology was actually new and exciting!

I remember an old car I used to own. You know the kind, ratty and raggedy, driven when I was a poor college student. I was having trouble with something I couldn't readily identify myself, so I took it into the shop.

The mechanic looked at it a couple of minutes and said, "What you really need is the radiator cap solution."

"Oh," I said, trying not to sound too confused. "Do you mean the radiator cap isn't holding enough pressure?"

"That's part of the problem" he said. "What you really need to do is lift the radiator cap and drive another car under it. Then the next day you can replace the radiator cap, and it should solve your problem."

I changed my car horn to a gunshot sound; people move out of the way a lot faster now.

My husband-to-be helped his aunt take the furniture of her boyfriend's home to a charity after the gentleman had passed away. She asked him if we still needed anything for our new life, and he told her that we had everything but a bedroom set. She graciously gave him the master bedroom set from the home.

The problem was that the poor man had died on the mattress, and I wanted to replace it with a new mattress, with my next paycheck. I really didn't want to sleep on a bed that someone had died in.

My mother-in-law-to-be heard the story. She urged me not to be silly and to use the perfectly good mattress instead of spending the money on a new one.

My mother-in-law-to-be soon came for an overnight visit.

The next morning she came out of her bedroom, and immediately asked me how I had slept, and I told her I had had a great night's sleep. She promptly reminded me of how I had foolishly wanted to buy a new mattress, and that I didn't appear to have suffered much sleeping on a bed that someone had died in.

I quickly answered that I had indeed bought a new mattress, and it was she that had slept on the poor man's mattress.

It's really fun to watch a person's face turn that many shades of "pale"!

- photo by Susan PageMy day began with the startling realization that we had gone from summer temperatures to chilly fall ones, overnight. That made me feel sad because I am a summer kind of girl.

Grabbing a sweater, I made breakfast and turned on the news.

My spirits plummeted to the point where I was in tears. World events were horrific. How did we get here? Where is God in this broken messed up war-torn world? People are suffering, innocent children are part of the carnage. Why can’t world leaders not see that war is not the way to solve disagreements?

Solomon once said, “There’s nothing new under the sun.” Will we never learn from history, from those who have gone before?
