Palm Branches

"?a huge crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to
meet Him. They shouted, "Praise God! Bless the one who comes in the name
of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!"
John 12,13 (NLT)

I sat around the pool at our hotel, thankful that God had given us a few days of relaxation in that beautiful desert country where the palm trees and cactus grow profusely. The temperature was a pleasant 75 degrees and the sun was shining brightly. All around me orange trees were loaded with fruit.

As I gazed into the blue sky with gorgeous palm trees circling the pool, I thought of the day long ago when palm branches were spread before Jesus as He made His entry into Jerusalem.

The "Front" Door

I've wanted to change the front door to my home for years.  We put in a double door on our front porch, but have been discussing getting a single door with highlights.  I need the 'light' in my foyer.  But it's hard to make a change in something that isn't worn out or giving you problems.

There are different doors each of us have to go through in our lives - the door to our homes, to our rooms, our business.  There's the door to the court house, the bank, and then there's the church door, into the vestibule.  Have you ever given a thought to what DOOR is most important in your life?

We couldn't do without the 'front door' of our home; too many burglaries happening in our world today.  We wouldn't be safe, not that the front door keeps a criminal out, if he truly wants to succeed in robbing your home.

Great Accomplishments And a Ticket into Heaven

My daughter recently worked on a school project and as usual when that is going on, I became aware of the subject. She was using my computer to access information online and then rented a video to take clips for an audio-visual presentation. I was impressed with her creativity as she put the project together and I was impressed with the life of the man she was studying. His name was Mohatmas Ghandi.

Ghandi's life, if we believe the slant given to his history, was one of self-sacrifice and commitment to his country. He attempted to bring all factions together to work for the good of the whole. His philosophy of non-violence has been an inspiration to many for generations since. There is no doubt Ghandi was a man of great accomplishments.

Persistent in the Pursuit of Justice

Luke 18:1-8

When I was doing marriage and family counseling I would often have a husband or wife--most often a husband--who would walk in visibly angry at the first visit. I always found that stimulating and a challenge; in fact, I preferred open hostility to indifference. You can usually talk with an angry person if you are willing to listen, provided the person's anger is motivated by a sense of injustice or a fundamental wrong in life. That kind of anger comes out of a passionate belief that life could and should be better than it is. When you are willing to listen to the person's injured hope, you have a starting point.

The widow in Jesus parable will not give up until she gets justice.

Jesus says the judge is dishonest and wanted a bribe.
According to William Barclay, this man had to be a gentile, Roman appointed judge. The jews took their disputes to tribunals, but these judges were notorious for being corrupt.

River Of Life

"And the angel showed me a pure river with the water of
life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God."
Rev. 22:1 (NLT)

Fall, in all its glorious opulence, is what we experienced as we drove through the mountains of Northern California. The orange and gold colors of the aspens and maples were breathtaking.

We took scenic drives through forests of evergreens. There, our eyes feasted on the beauty of clear lakes high on the mountains, waterfalls, cliffs and unusual rock formations. Animals of the land crossed our paths without fear of harm. Snow from winters past glistened high upon the mountains.

Only a Holy, Living, God that we love and serve could create such a mass profusion of beauty.

And then we found ourselves walking on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe calls two states its home because . . .
