God Gave Us The Dream

Isaiah 2:1-5
They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

I came across this quote from Time magazine. It's dated 2002 and is entitled "Today is a Great Day to buy a Used AK-47"

It seems some people in Afghanistan/>/> are preparing for peacetime, as weapons are going for bargain prices these days. According to Time magazine, prices on knives, Kalashnikov rifles, and rocket-propelled grenades have dropped 50 percent since December.

That Long Awaited Snowfall

"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee."
Psalm 56:3 (KJV)

snowSnow! Snow! Snow!

For several days the weather channel had been predicting snow for our area of the state. Maybe even two or three inches. Since snow is something that we seldom see, the grandchildren were very excited. Perhaps they would even get a snow day from school.

At last the day arrived! That long awaited snowfall was to be here. Day became night and the radar showed the snow was all around us. Every few minutes one of the grandchildren would open the door and peek out to see if the white stuff was falling.

I'll Be Home For Christmas

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11

Long before the season begins, the stores begin to bring out Christmas decorations. Then, right around Thanksgiving, you see homes begin to start dressing up the windows and lawns. Then, one magical moment, you walk in the local mall, and the seasonal music is playing. This begins to stir emotions in you, regardless of your age. The Christmas season is _in the blood_, and it's hard to remove it. You may no longer feel like shopping until you drop, but those songs such as 'Little Drummer Boy' and 'I'll Be Home For Christmas', make you long for the day to quickly get here, with visions of snow, decorations on the tree, and food piled high on the plate!

This week, I was touched by something in a newsletter that I receive periodically from a family on the web. The lady writing noted in her newsletter, that she could 'no longer go home', considering her father had passed away since last Christmas. I think it kind of hit home when . . .

"Getting Ready For Jesus" (A Children's Sermon)

Hi,  I am glad you all came for this Sunday's Kids Camp re-union Sunday. It's a special day too.
Today is the first day of what we call "Advent". Advent is when we begin the celebrations that lead up to Christmas, and every Sunday, we remember something about Jesus and what it meant for Him to be born into the world.

A few weeks ago at Thanksgiving, there was a wind storm and  the power went out at my house. The turkey was almost cooked, but not quite. The potatoes and other vegetables were not quite ready either. People were asked to bring the food cooked, but they hadn't been prepared and decided to do the cooking at my house. And the pumpkin pie needed . . .

The Saints, the Signs and Old Route 66!

A Hurting Word...

It's Grandparents' Day every day when you have grandkids (so I hear)--so let's go down memory's lane with Grandma and Grandpa this week! We find ourselves on the old Route 66, famous roadway in the early days of USA transportation--running east to west, and straight through my city, Springfield, Missouri. Our grandparents probably traveled that route many a time--and they traveled life many miles too. How in the world did they do it? Facing hardships, lack of modern conveniences, illness, death, tragedy....if Route 66 could talk, it would tell many a heroic tale of those who've traveled before us.

They DID leave us some signs along the highway, so hop in your Model-T antique prized possession and let's head down the road and check out the traffic signs on old Route 66--they're a little rusty but . . .
