The Rockies May Crumble

Luke 21: 5-19
It wasn't that long ago that scientific theories for most natural phenomena were founded on a theory of "gradualism". That's not the name, but reflected our views of the natural world. We believed that dinosaurs were replaced by mammals who adapted to the changing climate. We believed that climate change was gradual. In fact we believed that most natural occurrences were a slow process. This may be true in certain cases, but the scientific world now embraces the notion that big changes may, and in fact often are not gradual, but the result of dramatic crisis events.

The prevailing theory is that the dinosaurs were wiped out quickly, perhaps by a meteorite and not slowly by competition. Even climate changes, which are not infrequent in geological time, seem to happen rather suddenly rather than as a slow process.
The magnetic poles suddenly reverse themselves.
Our world is one in which change seems to take place in dramatic sudden shifts.

"We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ?
Our only power and success come from Him."
I Corinthians 3:4,5 (NLT)

Under the lights for the first time, Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line as the winner of the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway Sunday. Since ten of his friends were killed in a Hendricks Motorsports plane crash a few weeks ago, Jimmie has been on a mission to win the NEXTEL Cup Championship.

Johnson dominated most of the 26-race regular season, winning easily at more than one track. But, when the final 10-race for the championship began, he found himself falling to . . .

In A State Of Frenzy

Psalms 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

We are living in the fast lane, folks; no doubt about it! Roads we used to travel are now four-lane highways or expressways. The empty lots the children used to play are all now covered with homes, apartments, convenience stores, more and more malls, or service stations. As one more service station/convenience/package store goes up in a neighboring town, we all ask, "Why do we need ONE more station? That makes four on the same road within one block of each other. I'm speaking of a small town; not a big over grown city, with hundreds of thousands of people.

One day your neighbor drives a small car, and, the next time you look, there sets a big Van in the driveway. One television isn't enough; we need one in _each_ room. Local stations aren't enough, but it takes the . . .

Walk Into The SONshine!

/>/>/>A Hurting Word...

The theme of my life these days is "Run, Peggie, Run!"--like all moms who do taxi service for kids, run errands, attend appointments, and--well, if you're a mom, I need elaborate no further--you KNOW! But lately I've got a new themed adventure--"Walk, Peggie, Walk!"--and I walk the neighborhood development for exercise and physical fitness. I've got a dream...perhaps my NEXT adventure will be "Sit, Peggie, Sit!" - oh, not at my computer--in a beach chair by some faraway ocean.....ah, what fantasy! (Don't worry--if I have a laptop, you'll still get your devos...grin!)

I took a walk early one morning this week--and you know that's a good time to pray too...try it! I'll be honest--I prayed, "Lord, I don't have a devotional for this week!" And as I walked, facing east, I walked right into the SUNSHINE breaking through the beautiful fall foliage of the Midwest....and I had my devotional! I KNEW somewhere in that sunshine there was . . .

A Long List of Fools

Ah, well, I am a great and sublime fool. But then I am God's fool, and all His work must be contemplated with respect. - Mark Twain, a Biography

Mark Twain was in good company. There have been scores of men and women throughout history who could be called God's fools. I could list them, but it would take many pages, many books. Their accomplishments in life would fill a hundred libraries. Some of these fools have made us laugh and cry. Some of them have given us life-saving medicines and work-saving inventions. Some of them have changed nations and stabilized governments. Some of them will forever remain unknown, yet they have given us life itself. Their accomplishments in the heavenly realm would no doubt fill even more libraries. All of them are worthy of respect.
