Confessions of a Chocoholic!

Details
Written by: Peggie Bohanon
Published: 25 September 2004

I am a chocoholic. I know it, my friends know it, now YOU know it--and Choco Anonymous should be very happy with my complete confession. I've taken the first step on the road to recovery! OK, if you REALLY know me, you know I don't give up my chocolate THAT easy--and that somewhere, amidst the drippings and delight of my hilarious habit, there would be a devotional. There is!

Frightening Facts and A Note of Hope

Driving long distances alone has never been my favourite thing to do, but sometimes it has its benefits. I can sit alone with my own thoughts, giving me time to sort out things that have been on my mind. Short stories have been virtually written between here and Calgary. Essays and speeches have been fine-tuned. Sometimes it's nice to just turn the dial on the radio and find something worth listening to. I drove to Calgary early this past Wednesday and decided to see what the airwaves had to offer.

Wise or Compromise?

cross Proverbs 10:8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Isaiah 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

As Christians, just how happy are we? Can we really say we trust God and mean it? How many times have we gotten into a fix and wondered WHY GOD let us get there? Do we ever take the blame for things 'WE' got ourselves into? Do we want a GOD who is there 'when we' want Him, or do we want to know GOD as the one who is with us every moment? Do we tend to HIS business, or are we too confined to our own lives to pay attention to the will of God for our lives? Do we tend to want to 'figure out God', or do we let GOD do what He wants to do in our lives, without trying to decide what He might do next? Lots of things to ponder.

Shattered

It was only a handmade trinket,
With little beauty or worth.
Still, the proudest gift she had given
In her five years upon the earth.
When her dad, in terrible anger,
Destroyed her work of art
In blindness, he never realized,
What he shattered was her heart.

Make Hay While the Sun Shines

Luke 16:1-13

When I was a boy of about ten, there was a television show I loved to watch. It starred Phil Silvers and was about a lovable rascal called Sgt. Bilko. He was a motor pool sergeant who along with some of his cohorts was always looking for the big score. He lived by his wits, his charm and fast talking to get him out of the trouble he always got himself and his friends into.
The morality of the 1950's never allowed him to profit from his shenanigans, but you always hoped he might some day.
