It started out innocently enough.
I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.
I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.
And after all is said and done...the kitchen cleaned up, the football game is over, the kids have FINALLY gone to bed and you lie quietly thinking about your day... your tummy starts to rumble...
'Twas the night of Thanksgiving, But I just couldn't sleep.
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep;
The leftovers beckoned --- The dark meat and white,
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation...
The thought of a snack became infatuation...
What kind of music did Pilgrims listen to? Plymouth Rock, of course.
I won't say I'm worn out, but I don't get near the curb on trash day.
Methuselah ate what he found on his plate
And never, as people do now
Did he note the amount of the calorie count
He ate it because it was chow.
He wasn't disturbed as at dinner he sat
Devouring a roast or a pie
To think it was lacking the right kind of fat
Or a couple of vitamins shy.
He cheerfully chewed each species of food
Unmindful of troubles or fears
Lest his health might be hurt
By some fancy dessert
And he lived more than 900 years!

The SPCA rescued Maggie from Manitoba's Red River flood in 1996 and brought her to British Columbia where she had two short term owners before becoming a part of the Davis household where she preferred adults over kids, picked and ate fruit from trees in the backyard, and very rarely went into water at the beach.
