Prayer - Our Daily Communication With God

Details

Communication is something many of us are not very good at. We have problems communicating in our marriages, with our children, on the job, or perhaps even with our closest friends. Most of us want to 'talk?, but we don't want to ?listen?. And, communication has to be the combination of talking and listening between both parties.

Even in prayer, there is a time to talk to God, and a time to listen. Too often, we 'talk? and never find time to ?listen? to what the Lord has to say to us. We miss so much, when we constantly run our tongue in our prayer time. We need to take time to just be quiet, and listen for that still, sweet voice. Many do not think the Lord ever talks to them, but the truth is, they never stop talking long enough to hear Him speaking to them!

When we pray, we need to thank God for all the blessings He has brought to our lives. Too often, we bombard the Lord with our ?wants?, and forget to thank Him for what He has already done in our lives. Blessings come because of His promises, when we are obedient to His Word. So, we need to . . .

Gordon's Challenge at Talladega

NASCAR fans love the challenge that goes with restrictor-plate racing at Talladega Superspeedway!

Jeff Gordon had the dominating car Sunday at the Aaron's 499 Nextel Cup race. But, the win was not without its challenges. Staying up front 139 laps on the 2.66-mile oval kept him out of a wild 25 car crash that took out several top ten contenders.

"A million dollar junkyard," was Darrell Waltrip's observation from the booth. It took NASCAR over 40 minutes to remove the cars and clean up the debris. Repairs actually had to be made to the SAFER barrier before the green flag flew again.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson, polesitter Kevin Harvick, and fan favorite Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were involved in a crash near the end of the race. Any of those drivers, along with another DEI contender, Michael Waltrip, were very much in contention to win. A strong push from Waltrip helped Tony Stewart manage . . .

Observations About an Unknown God

Is there anyone here today who would say, "I never win anything"? You go to the concert and the door prize is never for you, and the service club raffle always goes to someone else? I have good news for you. You are a winner! Just the fact that you are here is proof. When you were conceived, you know that the chances that egg would be fertilized by that sperm was a millions to one long shot, but here you are! You are one in a million...or more! Feeling better? I hope so.

Here is another calculation of long odds:

In A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson marvels at what makes up human life:

No one really knows, but there may be as many as a million types of protein in the human body, and each one is a little miracle. By all the laws of probability proteins shouldn't exist. To make a protein you need to assemble amino acids?in a particular order, in much the same way that you assemble letters in a particular order to spell a word. [For example, to make collagen,] you need to arrange 1,055 amino acids in precisely the right sequence?.

The Comfort of the Visible King

Robert Louis Stevenson once described a storm that caught a vessel off a rocky coast and threatened to drive it and its passengers to destruction. In the midst of the terror, one daring man, contrary to orders, went to the deck, made his way to the bridge and there saw the steersman, tied tightly with rope to a post right in front of the ships wheel. Holding the wheel unwaveringly, inch by inch he was turning the ship out to sea. The pilot glanced over at his unexpected visitor and smiled. This daring passenger then went below and gave out a call to his fellow passengers: ?I have seen the face of the pilot, and he smiled. All is well.?

What is it that will bring comfort to you, here, this morning? You saw the memorial services that sought to console the soul of the nation this week, you hear of the debate about whether we as a country should re-define marriage and you feel the country tremble at the unknown consequence of such short sightedness. Let me ask you, can you see the face of the Pilot of your soul, can you see His smile of assurance, do you see His hand set firmly to the wheel, do you see what holds Him in place to . . .
