This one’s for "mamas" all over the world. Now you may BE a mama or be RELATED to one--and I THINK that means us all, so don’t tune out ’til I’m done talking...doesn’t that sound JUST like a Mama...grin!

It’s been said, "Ain’t Mama happy; ain’t NOBODY happy!" - and keeping Mama happy is a lifelong job for the Lord, for Mama, and for the people with whom she lives and works. Now we know that no one else is responsible for our OWN happiness but ourselves, so ya’ll can listen in while I talk to Mama--and to me too! Mama’s in a talkin’ mood, so hang on!

There are times when the "madness of life" gets to Mama--she’s got kid crises, computer crackups, health hassles, family feuds, job jumbles--you name it, Mama has it, hassles it and tries to handle it!  What to do? I’ve got some hints for you--and me--hang on till I pick up the clutter, clean up the kitchen, drive around the town, shut off the dryer, turn over the mattress, and turn on the brain...only a Mama can . . .

Cause for Celebration

Happy Birthday! It's a phrase we all hear once each year as we celebrate another milestone on our journey. We hear it from family, friends and colleagues. We hear it in restaurants as the waiters and waitresses gather around a table to sing the familiar song while the birthday boy or girl gets to wear some kind of silly hat. Sometimes we even see it posted on a lawn for all to see. I saw a big sign decorated with balloons on a front lawn last week, announcing the occasion to all who went by. (Happy birthday, Kyle!)

But not all of us want to celebrate. In an episode of a popular T.V. show aired recently, the main character avoided the subject of his birthday and became cranky when anyone brought it up. The scene at the end of the show is sad as we see him alone, downing a drink and playing Happy Birthday to himself on the piano. Sometimes we don't like to be reminded that we're getting older, but we all know it should be an occasion to be happy, an occasion to receive love and perhaps even a few gifts from those around us.

A birthday is a reason to celebrate. On a certain date in time, at a certain place, a miracle happened. You were born, I was born, along with millions of others. It's one of those every-day miracles that are easy to overlook because the event is . . .

Are You a ?Perennial? Or ?Annual? Christian?

Today, my daughter and I refurbished her flower beds. You can imagine how they looked, having been left all winter. She began early this morning to pull out weeds. Later in the day, I began helping her to pull out the rest of the weeds, finding the perennials coming up under the weeds and leaves that had fallen during the winter.

We bought a few new perennials at the store, along with potting soil and fertilizer. She chose perennials instead of annuals, since they are supposed to come up from year to year. And, most of the time, they do. We began replacing those flowers that had either died, or just never came back up.

Christians are like flowers, in some ways. A Christian starts out in ?full bloom? - wanting to learn all about the Lord. They begin their eternal walk earnestly. But, some, along the way, lose their zeal for the Lord. They become somewhat wilted, if not completely wiped out! Those that last a life time can be called ?perennials?, whereas those that lose their zeal could be called ?annuals?. They are constantly having to battle satan, because they have become . . .

How To Be A Brick

The rock group, Pink Floyd, have a song entitled, "Brick in the wall".
The lyrics are simple. There is only one stanza that repeats itself. It goes like this:

We don't need no education.
We don't need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teachers, leave those kids alone.
Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

There is a famous story about a king visiting the king of Sparta:

The King of Sparta was hosting a visiting king and boasted about the formidable walls of the city of Sparta. The visiting king looked around and could see no walls. He said to the Spartan king, "where are these walls of which you boast so much?" The Spartan king pointed . . .
