The Love That Empties Tombs

It was Friday afternoon, the crowds had returned to the city leaving the three crucified bodies a deterrent to all. Joseph of Arimathea went quickly to Pilate, and though fearful of what the Roman could yet do, he asked for permission to take care of the body of Jesus. This being granted, he quickly purchased a large quantity of white linen in which to wrap the corpse of Christ. At the same moment in another part of the city, Nicodemus the Pharisee, who also loved Jesus, was purchasing a large amount of myrrh and aloes, about 70 pounds in weight, which he would use with Joseph to help bury the Messiah. They took the body down from the cross, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were with them. At the tomb, which Joseph had purchased for his own family but now would be forever denied to him, they entered and began the task of wrapping the seventy pounds of myrrh and aloes into the wraps of linen. Around and around the body they wrapped until all was used, and like a great cocoon, they placed the bundled body into the carved recession in the center of the floor. They picked up their cloaks from the ledges at either side, took one last look at how low in the grave He lay, this Jesus, their Lord. Death lay heavy upon them. Then the stone rolled, and with a grinding thud, the day . . .

"Call 911, call 911," eight year-old Levi was scrambling to get help for his mother who had slipped and fallen on the wet tile floor in their kitchen. Gasping from the pain as her knee buckled under her, she instructed Levi and his seven year-old sister, Brooke, to call their dad at work.

Rushing home, he soon had them all in the car and on the way to the emergency room. After x-rays, Julia was given a cast, crutches and an appointment to see an orthopedist in four days. Those crutches soon became her helper, because without them she could not move around at all.

Just like Levi wanted to call 911 for help, we can cry out to God to save us from our sins and become our Savior. When we call to Him, He responds as our helper, protector, and friend. We find Him sufficient for all our needs and He alone can fill our lives with joy. God is the crutch we need to make our lives complete.

Julia could not move from one place to . . .

Shortly after starting her perfume business, Estee Lauder realized she had to persuade a cosmetics buyer to place her products in many stores throughout the country.

At 9 A.M., Lauder was in the offices of the American Merchandising Corporation, waiting to see Marie Weston, the cosmetics buyer. Since Lauder had no appointment, she was advised to come back another day.

Salespeople came and went. At lunch time, the receptionist said Weston's schedule was so full that getting to see her was impossible. Again, Lauder was told to come back later.

"I?ll wait a little longer," she persisted.

Hours passed. At 5:15 P.M. Marie Weston came out of . . .
