Good Morning 09-27

"The LORD shall be my God and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house and of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto Thee."
- Gen. 28:21,22

This is the first vow mentioned in the Bible. Jacob had been forced to leave his father's home because of the wrath of his brother Esau and was on his way unto his uncle Laban. Evening came and he decided to camp for the night. Selecting a stone for a pillow, he lay down to sleep.

During the night he dreamed a remarkable dream. He saw a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and decending, while the LORD stood above it. Most of us remember the song "Jacob's Ladder" Jacob received a wonderful promise from God, who said: "Behold, I am with thee and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest and will bring thee again into this land." Jabob awoke and was deeply touched by the vision and the promise, and made a solemn vow, promising that all his days he would be true to God in worshiping and in service.

Jocob kept his vow and reached the ripe old age of 147 years. Upon his death he pronounced upon his children a farewell blessing. "Behold I die, but God shall be with you."

Christian friends, truly God richly blesses those who make generous vows to Him and who carry out those vows conscientiously.

      "We love you, LORD Jesus," we often may say,
      But are we as ready His will to obey?
      Let's heed what God's Spirit would have us to do,
      For that's how we show Him a love that is true.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - The highest motive for obeying God is the desire to please Him.
