Sunday greetings everyone!

Dean Martin and Bob Newhart comedy skitIt's been a very busy week here at Cybersalt World Headquarters. With the growing power of artificial intelligence, a lot of folks are using it for good — preemptively finding vulnerabilities in software so they can be patched before anyone gets hurt. Trouble is, plenty of folks are using AI for exactly the opposite, and this week I've been cleaning up after sites that got hit by holes humans never thought to look for in all these years — but AI did.

All things considered, it's a very interesting time to be alive.

Today's video share is a fun Dean Martin and Bob Newhart comedy skit — and the funniest bit isn't the script. It's watching the two of them try (and fail) to keep a straight face while doing everything they can to crack each other up.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Top Soccer Shootout Ever With Scott Sterling - Studio CFor a long stretch now I've wanted to be able to point folks back to past editions of the Cybersalt Digest. Way back when, the software I used to send the Digest tucked away a copy of every mailing as it went out — but somewhere along the way an upgrade pulled that feature, and the archive went with it. A big thank you to Walter McLauren, whose ongoing wish to read back issues finally spurred me on to do something about it. The full archive isn't there yet, but there are now over 1,500 past editions of the Cybersalt Digest waiting for you at the Cybersalt Digest Archive.

Even though I'm not much of a soccer (or "football," as the rest of the world says) fan, today's video share is one I've come back to many times over the years and still smile at every time.

Sunday greetings everyone, and Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate it.

A Secret Hidden for 250 Years: Inside the Mystery of a Rare Gold Cabinet | Sotheby'sGrandma Cybersalt and I traveled up island last Friday to watch one of our grandsons play baseball — and when I say "baseball," I mean the kind where the players are somewhere between the ages of 8 and 10 and "Little League" would be a generous upgrade. Pulling up to the little neighbourhood ballpark, I was thrilled to find a parking spot right on the street, just beside the diamond. We met up with our daughter-in-law and two granddaughters to watch their brother take the field, and a couple of innings in, the batter hit a foul ball that sailed way high over the fence. While everyone was hollering at people to watch out, Susan and I watched it come down with a big clunk right on the hood of our car.

Everybody had a good laugh — and I had to laugh too, because in that one moment I realized I had become the guy. I was the grandfather at the baseball game whose car got hit by the foul ball. It was like I'd stepped out of a time machine. There's a little dent in the hood now, but at 160,000 miles she's still in great shape, and it wasn't worth getting upset about. Everybody had a wonderful time hearing my car get hit, and I had just as much fun hearing them talk about it afterwards — none the wiser that the car was mine. You could call it a true Grandpa Cybersalt moment.

Today's video share is an artisan creation so detailed and intricate it looks like it came from another time — and maybe even another world. I doubt anyone is getting a Father's Day gift this sophisticated, but the tracking of every single stone is a treat to watch.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Why do 12 marines guard this WWII shipwreck 24/7?Things are starting to settle into a summer routine here at Cybersalt World Headquarters. There's plenty to keep me busy at the desk catching up on work — and just as many chances to step away for a backyard cookout, a trip to the beach, or whatever else the season brings to the front porch. We're only three days out from the longest day of the year, and after that the sun starts its slow walk back the other way. I'm going to make a conscious effort to enjoy it while it's here.

Today's video share is a reminder of just how complicated international relationships between countries can be. The fallenness of mankind, and the hatred we hold toward those who are different than us, takes a real cost. Let's just say I wouldn't want to stay on this ship overnight.

Sunday greetings everyone!

I Never Said That (Red Words)Grandma Cybersalt and I had half a dozen or more birds in a tree on Friday. The cherries in our cherry tree have started to ripen, which means the Robins and Starlings have been helping themselves — and not even with any sort of manners. They’ll take one bite out of a cherry and leave the rest to rot on the branch. So we put up those white nylon nets, the ones we used last year that worked beautifully.

This year, apparently, the nets look an awful lot like spider webs to the little caterpillar-and-spider-eating birds. When we got up Friday morning, there they all were, trapped underneath, and none of them looked like they had the slightest idea how to get out. All day long they tried. By dusk there was still one little fellow stuck inside, so I went out and pulled open a section of the net to give him an exit. He looked at the opening, looked at me, and promptly scared himself down to the bottom of the tree where the net doesn’t reach — and out he flew. Today there were no birds in the net at all. Apparently, they can learn.

Today’s video share is a song I heard yesterday that hit me hard. I’m not a Christian nationalist, and this song says, better than I can, why that is.
