Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Cyclist chased by an ostrich at the Cape Argus Tour in South AfricaThe dog park going in next to Cybersalt World Headquarters is really coming along. They've covered the surface where the dogs will run with wood chips, which has cut down the dust in the neighbourhood in a big way. And they're about to put down sod over the dirt in the people part of the park, which is a wonderful stage to reach, because things had gotten pretty dusty around our house.

In fact, last weekend Grandma Cybersalt and I hosed down our entire house, our hedge, our deck, and most of our plants and fruit trees, just to get the dirt off and bring them back to green instead of a dingy greenish-brown. I'll admit I've been a bit of a curmudgeon about a dog park going in right next door, and I'm still waiting to hear what the noise levels are going to be like. But I'm feeling much better about it all. I think choosing to be grateful is really making the difference.

Today's video share might look perfectly ordinary or completely wild, depending on which part of the world you call home. A cyclist out stretching his legs before a big race in South Africa picks up some very fast company on the open road — and a shout out to his buddy who was riding alongside to catch the whole thing.

Sunday greetings everyone!

Oklahoma high school freshmen give their mothers a goodbye kissLast month I told you about my son's birthday party, where a bunch of guys from his church came over and we played the online version of Stock Ticker he'd programmed. Well, he hasn't stopped tinkering since. He's built a whole new game called Splitsville, and it's in the testing stage right now. He has no idea I'm telling you about it.

So if you'd like to be one of his unsuspecting testers, you're welcome to give it a play. It's free, and signing up takes about ten seconds. Who knows, you might have a ton of fun with it. I know I have to watch that I don't play it too much!

Today's video share is about the initiation ritual that freshmen face at one Oklahoma high school. The seniors surround the cars on the first day and hold the doors shut, and nobody gets out until they've given their mom a goodbye kiss in front of everybody. It's a welcome instead of a hazing — and it makes a bunch of teenagers stop and say thank you at exactly the moment in life when they're least likely to think of it.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Circus acrobat performing in the ringGrandma Cybersalt and I are both feeling a little punky after getting our second shingles vaccine the other day. The upside is that when your body reacts like that, you know the vaccine is doing its work. The downside is that you still feel sick even though, technically, you aren't.

Today's video share is an impressive display of not giving up. When I see something like this though, I also have to remember that she is somebody's daughter, and my heart goes out to her parents.

Sunday greetings everyone!

2026 NMRA National Train Show, World Record T-Trak LayoutThe front page of cybersalt.org — the ministry site, not my company site over at cybersalt.com — has had the same article sitting on it for about fifteen years. I'd love to tell you that was a design decision.

So during this week's Watch Me Work live stream on my YouTube channel, I finally did something about it. The home page is now a portal that points you to the different areas of the site, so you can find the jokes, the pictures, the cartoons and the writers without hunting around. There's still plenty left to do, but it's a beginning.

Today's video share is a walk around the world-record T-Trak layout at this year's NMRA National Train Show. HO scale is my personal favourite, but I would have loved the chance to wander up and down those tables in person. It's hard to believe how far the thing stretches.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Amish Shed MoveWe continue to be thankful for our heat pumps around here. We kept the house closed up all day — first because of the topsoil they're bringing in for the human part of the dog park next to us, which smells a whole lot like a barnyard on a warm afternoon, and then later because the sky went hazy with smoke from wildfires that aren't near us but are close enough that the wind can carry them our way.

Given what so many people are going through with those fires right now, a closed-up house is the only inconvenience I have any business mentioning. So I'm not complaining. I'm grateful.

Today's video share is an Amish community picking up a shed and walking it across to a new spot. It is impressive to watch that many people move that much building by hand, and my only question is why they didn't build it in the right place to begin with!
