Resurrection Sunday greetings everyone - the Lord is Risen!

The PlateYou would think that after watching as many fail videos as I have, I would know better. And yet... here we are.

On Friday I did the thing. The thing I should not have done. And the wipeout that followed was, shall we say, spectacular — evidenced by the fact that as I was struggling to get back on my feet, someone nearby said they wished they had caught it on video.

It's good to be young at heart. It really is. But I am learning — slowly and painfully — that my body does not bounce the way it used to.

There's an interesting evolution to falling down as you age:

When I was a kid, I'd cry because it hurt.

When I got a little older, I'd feel embarrassed because people saw me fall.

Now that I've reached the age I have... I just feel bad for the people around me who are mortified because they just watched an "old man" go down.

Today's video share is a repeat of an old favorite: The Plate.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Even with one of my granddaughters sitting beside me, I have to admit that watching the Artemis II rocket lift off yesterday made me feel like a little boy again.

I know the technology inside this latest generation of rockets is vastly different from the ones they launched when I was a young boy — back in the late '60s and '70s — but it didn't matter. There is just something about a big old rocket firing up and heading for the Moon that does a heart good.

Hats off to those four astronauts for the confidence and bravery it takes to strap themselves into a capsule perched on top of all that explosive power. I'm excited to watch how things unfold over the next ten days, and I'm fully expecting a few more moments of boyish wonder as they travel out to and back from the Moon.

As a fun little bonus: NASA offered people the chance to submit their names to be included on a memory disk aboard the rocket. I took them up on that. So while those four brave souls become the farthest humans from Earth in history, my name will be along for the ride — one among 5,647,889 others. More boyish fun, indeed!

Sunday greetings everyone!

What Was Happening in the World When Jesus Was BornThere was a time not too long ago when I was often tired during the day because I'd stayed up too late trying to catch up on work. This past week I was tired again — but for a completely different reason. I've been losing sleep because I'm so excited about a project I'm working on. Not great to be tired either way, but it's a lot more fun to be tired because you can't stop working on something exciting!

I'll fill you in with more details when I'm done, but I'm developing a new software product — and part of what makes it so exciting is that AI has opened a door I didn't have before. I'm actually able to code and build things that work the way I think they should, instead of being confined to whatever tools happen to be available. I'm really enjoying myself!

Today's video share gave me a fresh perspective I hadn't considered before. When I read the Gospels, I tend to zoom in tightly on Israel — the crowds, the disciples, the religious leaders — and forget that the rest of the world didn't pause while Jesus walked the earth. Civilizations were rising and falling, people were living their lives, and the vast majority of people on earth had absolutely no idea that God had stepped into human history in a human body.

The computer is currently fighting me as I try to get today's mailing together, so I am just going to not look it in the eye and back away slowly.

Sunday greetings everyone!

Yesterday, once again, Grammar Cybersalt had me up the ladder — and I went willingly, "saws all" in hand — as she pointed out branches in our fruit trees that she wanted trimmed. Usually I'm the one who wants to hack things back way more aggressively than she does, but this time the roles were reversed. I was a little nervous doing it, but I kept reminding myself that as long as we didn't cut the tree down entirely, we'd probably be just fine. Truth be told, Susan knows a lot more about pruning fruit trees than I do — and the proof of that will be in the harvest come end of summer!
