While serving as church usher, I was carrying out our tradition of escorting parishioners to their seats before the service began. After I returned to the entrance of the sanctuary to escort the next party, I greeted two strangers and asked where they would like to sit.

Looking confused, the young man smiled and said, "Non-smoking, please."

"'I am with you always, to the end of the age.' That is a promise you can stake your life on. It is also a challenge: if Jesus himself is 'with you,' what should you be doing? How then should you live?"

I once played golf in a foursome with my Minister. I'm afraid I forgot myself and let loose with some profanity after missing an easy shot.

He said, "I've played golf with some of the finest men in our congregation.

Last week, Jack Nicholas went for six under par on this very course. I didn't hear one word of profanity from him."

Still upset, I replied, "Well Pastor, what did he have to cuss about?"
