As a recently divorced police officer, and new to the dating scene, I was thrilled but slightly intimidated to be dating a lovely woman with a young daughter.

Parenting was new to me, however, and it constantly tripped me up. One evening, as I belted the little girl into her safety seat, she shocked me by asking, "Do you and mommy kiss?"

I stalled for time, looking to her mother for clues, and I asked, "Uh, well, uh, why do you ask, honey?" to which the little angel replied, with her nose crinkled in disgust, "Mommy and BOB do!"

Guess I'm not the only one tripped up by parenting…

"Where's my Sunday paper?!" the irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded, wanting to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Ma'am," said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on Sunday."

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition, as she was heard to mutter, "Well, that's why no one was at church today!"

After I bought my mother a compact-disc player and some CDs, she was excited to discover she no longer needed to rewind or fast-forward tapes or move the needle on her record player.

Knowing she was not that technically astute, I called her a few days later to see how she was managing. "Fine. I listened to Shania Twain this morning," she said.

"The whole CD?" I asked.

"No," she replied, "just one side."

A jeweler standing behind the counter of his shop after hours was astounded to see a suspicious looking man come hurling headfirst through the window.

The SPCA rescued Maggie from Manitoba's Red River flood in 1996 and brought her to British Columbia where she had two short term owners before becoming a part of the Davis household where she preferred adults over kids, picked and ate fruit from trees in the backyard, and very rarely went into water at the beach.
