Violin Fence

Details
Published: 14 May 2007

For a long time people have complained that there is too much violence on TV.  After listening to some of the sounds on this site you may be tempted to declare that there is too much violins on the internet.  It's a hard argument to refute since fencing is an olympic sport where one tries to stab an opponent.  Add a violin to fencing and it is inevitable that someone is going to come to bows.

Don't worry, it should all make sense once you listen for a bit.

The Fifth Guy

Details
Published: 11 May 2007

This is a fun look at a serious problem - germ transmission.  When I visit at the hospital I try to remember to wash my hands before going into a patient's room and after leaving.  A nurse once told me that to get the best effect I should wash my hands for as long as it takes to sing happy birthday.  After a few strange looks I now sing it in my head.

If we all celeberated more birthdays in our heads,  fewer of us would get sick from unnecessary germ transmission.  However, it seems that only 4 out of 5 people wash their hands after using the washroom.  How do we get the 5th person on board with good hygiene practices?  Here's a site with some good suggestions.

Curve Ball

Details
Published: 08 May 2007

You never know when life will throw you a curve ball, but when it does at least try to throw one back.

The same holds true for this game.  If you hit the ball with the very middle of the paddle you some kind of a bounus, but I'm still not sure what to do to get a better curve.  Sure, it's no pac man, space invaders or x-box, but like a lot of fun things, it's fun for a while.

Computer Monster

Apparently, before the cookie monster was the cookie monster he was the computer monster.  Here's an enjoyable bit of vintage film that was used in an IBM training film called "Coffee Break" (Thanks for the info Rocketboom).

TGV

Details
Published: 01 May 2007

I don't speak French very well, but my guess is these people are excited about how fast this train is going.  It goes to prove that language is no barrier for railfans, speed aficionados, or people who just like to watch world records being broken.

The TGV - train à grande vitesse - is France's solution to cutting down the time it takes to travel by rail and the time it takes to care for survivors of train wrecks.  Travelling at 574.8 KMH drastically shortens both.
