A brother comes clean at his brother's weddingWe've had another fun visit with our son and his family this week. Amidst all the family time, I also got to enjoy a bit of nerd-bonding — helping him set up some AI tools to manage his irrigation and landscaping company. I'm impressed that there's a nerd part of him that's similar to me — although as I type this, he is reading over my shoulder and laughing at the very idea.

Today's video share is a really fun moment — a brother comes clean at his brother's wedding about something he did way back when. Those are great family moments — the stuff we did as children, finally confessed in adulthood.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

How to remember people's namesThe good news first: my arm keeps getting better, which I am especially thankful for, because the rest of the week has been a parade of small adventures. Tuesday morning was an eye appointment — pleasant enough, until they dilated my pupils so wide I could practically see into next week. Then it was off to the dentist for two fillings, one of which was courtesy of a tooth that decided to crack all on its own. Not my favourite morning.

Ups and downs as usual — but I keep seeing ways God is working through both, so I remain a happy man.

Today's video share is one that has already helped me immensely. I am one of those people who gets introduced to someone, hears their name, and then forgets it before the handshake is over. It is always a little embarrassing the next time our paths cross. This video gave me some insight into why that happens, plus a few tricks that are already making it easier for me to remember names the first time around.

Sunday greetings everyone - Happy Mother’s Day to those of you who celebrate it!

Kansas mother behind Tatschl Line discoveryI’m excited to report that my zero inbox dream has been realized. Some of you will remember I’ve been chasing this for years — trying to get organized and disciplined enough to actually run an empty inbox. The extra motivation finally came when I agreed to speak at a conference on the dream of a zero inbox; I gave that presentation a week ago Friday. The proof of the pudding showed up yesterday: when the batteries in the UPS for my workspace gave up the ghost, instead of it being a frustrating interruption of work I was behind on, I just headed out to run a nice Saturday errand and grab the replacements. Best Saturday I’ve had in a long time.

Today’s video share is a lovely Mother’s Day story — a Kansas reporter using her airtime to honour her mom by celebrating her scientific legacy. Her mother was the first to notice a biogeographical boundary cutting across the state — now called the Tatschl Line — and the piece is a great reminder that our moms had whole interesting lives before they were our moms.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

The Mysterious 30 Year Journey of Apollo 12It's been a very busy week here at Cybersalt World Headquarters. I've got a handful of projects on the go — some brand new software I'm getting ready to release, plus an opportunity that came up this week to purchase a couple of websites that'll be a nice enhancement to what I'm already doing. I'll share more once the deal is closed and everything's transferred over.

In the meantime I'm feeling really positive about all of it, and really thankful too. A couple of years ago Jesus set me free from a pattern of self-sabotage I'd carried around for far too long, and I am genuinely enjoying watching how well things are going now.

Today's video share is an excellent example of what goes up must... go round and round and round.

Sunday greetings everyone!

Titanic drone tributeGrandma Cybersalt and I had a busy but full day yesterday. We spent it at our church for some theology teaching and reflection with a visiting doctor from McMaster University. In the middle of all that, we snuck out to attend the wedding of a wonderful young couple from our church — a beautiful ceremony, and a lot of fun. Then it was back to church for the rest of the afternoon's teaching, out for supper, and on to the wedding reception... which was held in a local aquarium of all places. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it worked really well.

Today's video share is another Titanic-related find. I hope you aren't tired of me sharing these — I just found this one really moving. I'm a big fan of drones, and seeing them used this way to create such a powerful moment of reflection was something else.

What is this towering dome tucked away in western N.B.?I had my first physiotherapy session yesterday — the start of getting full mobility back in my right arm. It's improving day by day, and the exercises themselves aren't hard, I just have to do them often. I'm sticking with it because that's what you do, even though I'm not naturally a detailed, finicky kind of guy. As if I needed one more thing in that category in my life.

Today's video share is something that I think I need in my backyard. I don't have nearly enough potatoes to fill it, but I'm sure I could find a bunch of other stuff to stash in there — and I think it would be pretty cool.

Sunday greetings everyone!

Davey and Goliath: 10 Bizarre Facts From Behind the ScenesI treated myself to a new tool this week. Always a fun thing to do — and after the couple of weeks I’ve had with this arm injury, it felt extra deserved. Rehab starts Tuesday, and I’m pleased with the small daily improvements I’ve been making. Here’s hoping the rehab kicks things into a higher gear.

The tool? A roofer’s torch. No, I don’t have any plans to do any roofing. We have a large gravel turnaround in front of our house and a gravel parking area beside it — and the little weeds in those gravel beds keep on coming. I figured a torch would beat chemicals and beat pulling them out (only to watch them grow right back). And it works.

Now, Grandma Cybersalt is a bit nervous I’m going to burn the property down. After my first couple of passes with it… I had to admit she might have a point. Given my recent track record of hurting myself (not intentionally, of course), me telling her I’m being careful doesn’t seem to put her 100% at rest. Hopefully my next update on this tool is just that the gravel is weed-free.

Today’s video share is for everyone old enough to remember the original Davey and Goliath — that claymation Sunday-school staple from the 1960s. Turns out there are some surprisingly weird stories from behind the scenes nobody told us back when we were watching.
