Water Painting

Details
Published: 20 August 2008

You should maybe go to washroom before watching this video as it may have the same effect on you that staring at fire before bedtime has on others after they go to sleep.

The good folks at Canal City Hakata (a mall built around a canal in Japan) have a fountain that greets people with wonderful art that is "drawn" with water. Of course, to draw water one needs a pail or or paint, but to draw with water one needs only water and a fountain (though I am sure there is a comptuer involved here as well). In fact, as you watch the video you will see they also print with water - which would sure save me money in inkjet cartridges for my printer.  I doubt that Epson and Hewlett-Packard will ever allow that.

Amazing Catch

Details
Published: 30 June 2008

Back when I was a teenager, I played on a church league baseball team. I was a mediocre player, but I did manage the odd brilliant "major league-ish" catch. I must admit, though, that I never managed to pull off anything like the catch this ball girl made in foul territory.

5 Metronomes

Details
Published: 10 June 2008

First of all, let's be clear and state that metronomes are not really short people who live in a large city.  They are clicky things that help you to keep track of the time while you are playing music.  Some metronomes do not click - they flash. My wife has one of those, though her metronome also clicks - unless the batteries run down and then it does neither.

It is only necessary to have one metronome to keep track of time, but I suppose a second one as a backup would be good should your batteries ever run down.  It would be complete over kill to have, let's say, 5 metronomes.  Unless, of course, you wanted to make a video showing how to get them all ticking at the same time.  But who would ever do that?  This guy would - that's who.

Einstein Monroe

Details
Published: 22 May 2008

What do Einstein and Marilyn Monroe have in common? Apparently 15 feet. That's how far you need to back away from your computer monitor for this picture of a math genius to turn into an actress genus.

There may be a lesson in this. Sometimes, up close, people don't always look beautiful and far away they don't always appear smart. But if you take the time to get farther away or closer (as the case may be) your perspective may change. Undoubtedly this worked for Mrs. Einstein before she was Mrs. Einstein.

As with many things in life, the distance you look at someone is all relative.

Back up from your screen and see Albert Einstein turn into Marilyn Monroe.

Flaming Bicyclist

Details
Published: 22 May 2008

This is just plain cool. A lot of people are using those clip-on flashing LEDs on the back of their bikes to warn motorists of their presence when riding their bikes at night. This is definitely a way better solution to bicycle safety on the road - although, I must point out that the flaming guy doesn't seem to have a bike helmet on.
