Will Life Ever Be Normal Again?

So many people in the coastal areas of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have been removed from their homes. Most of them have lost their homes, and everything they own. In many of those cities/towns, the people have lost their livelihood.

There were so many deaths that seemed unnecessary - from the people who refused to get out before the hurricane in New Orleans, to those that were not given access to a way out - to those that ?waited? and no help came. The blame game played a huge roll in this mess. Instead of stepping up to the plate and sending out rescue teams the minute it happened, people were waiting for others to take on the task.

I don't believe God looks at this problem with a happy face; instead, He probably has a heavy heart. Most of His people have done their best - so many reports of loving neighbors helping neighbors - not those just ?next door?, but those in other states. That is called ?love for . . .

Stirring The Paint

I stood in the bare white room and sighed. Paint cans, trays, rollers and brushes were stacked in the middle of the floor. Every breath I took reminded me that I'd been here for a number of days, but there was still work to be done. These walls were still white. By the time we were finished painting the downstairs floors of two houses, I was tired, but I was getting pretty good at painting. I was even enjoying it a bit. It was satisfying, watching the paint flow onto the walls, turning them to a warm comforting colour.

I grabbed a new pail, gave it a bit of a shake and opened it up. I knew as soon as I passed the roller over the wall that something was wrong. I looked at the label on the pail. It was the same colour. I looked at the paint inside. It looked the same as what I'd been using earlier in the day. But I looked at the wall and frowned. I dipped a brush into the paint and immediately realized the problem. It needed to be stirred. It took quite a while, and my arm was starting to object, before the consistency was right and I could use that paint, but once it had been stirred enough, the rest of the work was . . .

School Daze ... and Knights!

School days, school days, good, old Golden Rule days..." They're back--in the USA--again! Kids hop on buses with backpacks and lunch boxes and--if there's a big project, YOU'RE off in your car to school too to deliver the project (remember those days??) It can leave you in a daze as you try to juggle it all as a parent--or teacher! God bless our teachers!

Well, God's got a school too--and sometimes we end up in a DAZE trying to matriculate through the classes He has designed for us. Now the lunch at His table is good--the recess and fellowship is fun--but sometimes the classes are pretty tough!

That's where the armor of a knight comes in...for when He sends us out on the fighting fields of our world, it's not arm wrestling in a play gym--it's real wrestling in a real world, and we need every piece of God's armor to pass the spiritual fitness test and face the foe! Days and nights in God's classroom of life are a challenge...but . . .

When God Believes - Part 2

Life it seems is an endless experience of new beginnings. Perhaps the beginnings are small, like beginning to learn a new sport or perhaps the beginnings are huge like beginning to live on your own, beginning to leave home or beginning to be a parent. There is no age limit on beginning, people begin in their eighties and nineties. I heard a story recently of a couple who were in their mid eighties being wed, he for the first time. Beginning doesn't have any limits for abilities nor for any other trait of humanity, people who are extremely disabled begin constantly, sometimes as adaptations to the disability sometimes as expressions of who they are. One thing for certain, ?beginning? occurs for the entire duration of our lives, either beginning to live or beginning to die. It is impossible to talk of beginnings without recognizing that they will always be an invitation to faith in one way or another. The very fact that ?beginnings? are wrapped in the unknown, that they will call for our will, emotion and intelligence, means that they point us in the direction of faith. When you think about it, if life is full of . . .

Wonders of Creation - Time

Details
Published: 12 September 2005
Time is familiar but also a mystery, for without it all the processes in the universe could not happen. Without time, you could not move your eyes from one word to another as you read this sentence.

Time can be divided into many categories ? attoseconds, femtoseconds, picoseconds, nanoseconds, microseconds, milliseconds and seconds.

A healthy person's heartbeat lasts about one second. In the same time it takes for a heart to beat once, Earth travels 30 kilometres around the sun, while the sun travels 275 kilometres on its path through the universe. Light takes 1.3 seconds to reach us from the moon.

There are sixty seconds in one minute. In one minute a newborn baby grows about one milligram. A shrew's heart beats 1000 times. Light from the . . .
