We’ve all had those days. Days when our world doesn’t seem very wonderful.
Starting the day by watching the morning news can be discouraging. Additionally, there are traffic jams, work pressures, relationship stresses and various other frustrations that arise.
What if we hit the replay button and choose to begin each day with Good News?
We can open God’s Word and be bravely outfitted with the full armour of God. Then we can step into the world with a whole new perspective, and believe it or not, … it is a wonderful world, it truly is! Despite wars and rumours of war, terrorist attacks, hurricanes, floods and horrific crimes against humanity … our world is beautiful because of creation and because of Jesus. Our world is beautiful because Christ’s light shines … and it shines in and through us!
Recently, at the end of one of those “not so wonderful days,” I listened to Louis Armstrong’s stirring rendition of What a Wonderful World. It is soulful. We could sing this song in an attitude of worship. The lyrics move me emotionally and spiritually.
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

When we rest our heads on our pillows and reflect on the beautiful moments of our day, there is always a touch of wonder to ponder. Seeing God’s beauty in the ordinary takes practice, but through His Spirit, our thoughts are expanded. It’s sometimes called windows to the soul. Treasures of beauty and wonder can be found, even in the darkest places, especially when we lean into gratitude. Thank you, Lord, it truly is a wonderful world, all because of knowing Jesus.
“The whole earth is filled with awe at Your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, You call forth songs of joy” (Psalm 65:8).
“Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts” (Psalm 105:2).“Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind” (Psalm 107:21).
