winter landscapeOne of the most profound questions Jesus often asked during His years of ministry, and still asks each of us today, is … “What do you want Me to do for you?”

Similarly, in our everyday lives, we often ask one another, “How can I help you?” This question reflects Christ’s own servant heart. While we may not perform miracles as Jesus did, we are still called to serve others in a Christ-like way. Our acts of kindness, whether small or great, are opportunities to reflect His love and character to those around us.

There is a promise in Psalm 37: 3-5, which reads: “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him and He will do this.”

There is a desire within my heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The Lord knows our longings. I am deeply grateful for the way the Lord gifted me with a position in ministry. I appreciate the many years of joyful service. I’ve been blessed to meet hundreds of people, hear their stories, and listen to various needs and prayer requests. I’ve enjoyed a bit of travel, collaborated with diverse teams, laughed, cried and been both exhilarated and exhausted by the challenge. Even though I’m now retired, it doesn’t mean I’m not enjoying ministry. My ministry commitments are now volunteer based. That does not diminish the joy and blessing I receive.

I love the passage of Scripture penned so poetically by the Apostle Paul. It’s a beautiful prayer for us as we serve our Lord. Everyone who is a child of God serves both our Lord and their fellowman in one way or another.

“ For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:16-21)

When the actual width, length, height and depth of God’s love is fully understood … it will change us in ways that we could never imagine. It will strengthen us to the core of our inner being. When we completely understand the full dimension of our Abba Father’s love (if that is even possible), it will stretch us, mould us, bend us and compel us to become braver and bolder for Jesus. We will be more real, more loving, more giving, more caring and … more like Jesus. This is possible by God’s grace and through the power of His Holy Spirit.

What can you do for us, dear Jesus?

Oh Lord, help us to focus on the power of Your love and be filled with all the fullness of that love. May we build Your Kingdom where You have placed us, for Your glory!
