A dusting of snow on a lakeside berm with small shrubs and grass; lake and sky visible in the background. As flocks of birds by instinct gather
To migrate as the jet streams flow
My heart song dims because I’d rather
Escape the north-east winds that blow

To hibernate and mourn the passing
Of sun-drenched days that warm the skin
Or choose instead to count the blessings
Of warm, dry shelter, friends and kin

Observe the barren willow branches
That bend and sway on wind-swept nights
As moonlight on the water dances
And snowflakes glisten white on white

Each season holds its special magic
With changes that can be embraced
To miss the wonder would be tragic
Lost time can never be replaced
