“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31).
One might ask, does God know when one little bird falls to the ground? This truth is hard to absorb because it’s just so amazing!
The Psalmist says that our Heavenly Father knew every part of our bodies as we were being formed in utero. “For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth” (Psalm 139:13-15). This truth, depending on circumstances, may be hard to believe until we reflect and remember.
Remember what … you may be asking? Remember all the times our Faithful Father showed up in miraculous ways. I reflect on a couple of past experiences, but keep in mind that these types of events occur so often that if recorded, a whole book could be written!
My heart was deeply burdened for friends who are going through times of severe testing. As I conversed on the phone with one of these friends who was suffering from cancer, I listened and prayed. I then took another call from a ministry colleague who shared news of mutual friends who were navigating deep waters. I said, “We just need to be able to see a rainbow after the rain.” At that moment, a woman walked into the office, leaving a card on my desk. After I got off the phone, I picked up the card which read: “Just knowing the rainbow will follow the rain, can keep our faith flowing through sorrow and pain. And knowing that Heaven will send down God’s light is a constant reminder that keeps our faith bright.”
“Wow, Lord, I’m amazed that You would affirm Your truth by sending this encouragement exactly when it was needed!” I also thanked the Lord for His servant, a sweet woman who, from time to time, dropped by with cards of encouragement.
Another example of God’s amazing faithfulness occurred during evening devotions on the day of my job performance review. Let’s go back to the evening before my review. The verse for that day was “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O King” (Daniel 3:17). Well, that seemed rather daunting, until I read further where the questions asked were … “to whom do we align our allegiance? Are we worshiping success at work, with performance and prestige instead of God?” This was helpful on the evening before the meeting with my boss. The next evening, after the performance review, when both my strengths and weaknesses were discussed, the verse of the day was: “But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
These affirmations continue to amaze me. While some may claim that they are mere coincidences, I know better. The God who knows every hair on our head knows exactly what we need every moment of every day.
Yes, this is beyond human understanding, and I am amazed!
