The average man of the world feels that Christian religion is a joy killer, because it places so many taboos upon its followers. He is convinced that the
Christian life is a poor, humdrum affair; and he has certain feeling of pity in his heart for the victim who has to say to so many types of pleasure: "I dare not take part."
 
But there is one thing that such a person overlooks. By reason of the joy which a Christian has in Christ, he no longer finds any particular delight in the questionable pleassures of the man of the world. We must say to those who have pity and . . .

But there is one thing that such a person overlooks. By reason of the joy which a Christian has in Christ, he no longer finds any particular delight in the questionable pleassures of the man of the world. We must say to those who have pity and feel sorry for us: "Spare your pity. As a Christian I have a joy that is beyond compare, a peace that passes all understanding."
 
Christian friends, a genuine Christian does not go around whimpering about the sacrifices he is making or of the self-denial he is practicing. Those who always are complaining about the sacrifice which Christianity involves, think lightly of the unsearchable riches in Christ. We as Christians give up certain things and sometimes we give up much. But we get infinitely more than we give up, and the joy of getting the abiding and enduring treasures in Christ makes us forget all about our sacrifices, which, if properly viewed, are no sacrifices at all.  Yielding our sinful pride and self-sufficiency to the LORD may seem as if we are losing everything. But only then will we discover that to have life in Christ is to have everything.
 
      We think we have what matters most
      Of what this life can give;
      But when we yield it all to Christ
      We've just begun to live.
 
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - When we have nothing left but Christ, we find that Christ is enough.
