"Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tried Stone, a precious Cornerstone, a sure Foundation."

The Prophet Isaiah here tells us about the abiding Foundation upon which the Church is built. That Foundation is Christ, a precious Cornerstone, concerning whom St. Paul writes: "Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid."
 
He is a sure Foundation. Firmly standing on this Foundation, St. Paul decalres in the face of all persecution: "I know whom I have believed."  "I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to . . .

Christain friends, if we could draw the veil that separates us from the redeemed in glory and inquire of them: "What is the Foundation upon which you built, the Rock to which you clung, in life and in death?" there would come the answer, loud and clear, in one mighty chorus: Our hope was built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. And as we look ahead to the time of our departure, may we put our whole heart and soul into the prayer:
 
      Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
      Let me hide myself in Thee.
