Cybersalt News - July 4, 2021

Sunday greetings everyone and happy 4th of July to our US subscribers!

The "new" news around Cybersalt World Headquarters is that Grandma Cybersalt and I got our second vaccination yesterday. Back in April we received the AstraZeneca jab, and yesterday we followed up with the Moderna shot. We know we are blessed to be in this position which many in the world are not yet in.  After leaving the vaccination centre we prayed in our car giving thanks to God, also asking Him to advance the end of the pandemic worldwide.

Now for the "old" news - believe it or not, this is my third try to send out the following. I originally wrote it on June 13th, (my mom's 81st birthday) but missed the last step to send the mailing out that day. Then last week I had it lined up to go out but a glitch in the system put a Rev. James Snyder article in place of the news instead.

So here we go again!

Dag Bad DayA few weeks ago, a good friend of mine called me up to review a business call he had just been on. He suspected it had gone poorly, but wanted my opinion. He described the conversation and to make a long story short, yes, it had gone poorly.

My friend was having a bad day.

The next day I was on a phone call with one of my clients and somewhere along the way I realized things had taken a turn for the worse and, try as I could to bring it to a less bumpy landing, it ended in a very bumpy way. A couple of hours later, after regathering my thoughts and myself, I was better able to see my part in the turbulence.

I was having a bad day.

I reminded myself, as I reminded my friend the day before, that there are going to be times in our lives when we don't get something right. We can try to avoid them, but we should still expect them so we aren't totally surprised by them. That way we'll have one less step to take as we move on, making better what we can and the most of what we can't.

Today's video share is of a place where nobody ever has a bad day: Bennu. Don't get too excited, nobody ever has a good day there either!

Sleeping FoxOh look, Chicken Thursday!

Last week's PearlyGates joke (www.cybersalt.org/pearly-gates-jokes/stamp-quality) was about Stalin complaining about the quality of a stamp bearing his image. Thanks to subscribers Pastor Mary S., Lance C., and David T., for noticing and letting me know I had included an image of a stamp with Lenin by mistake.

First of all, I'm impressed that each of you three has such a keen eye for Russian leaders!

Next, to those who did not notice, rest assured I have reported Mary, Lance, and David to Homeland security.

Finally, I must say I am surprised I made that mistake because Lenin is my favourite Beatle!

Today's video share is a cool time lapse of 2004-2008 dome growth of Mount St Helens. Remember, just because something looks like it isn't moving, doesn't mean it isn't moving!

Sunday greetings everyone, and happy Father's Day to everyone who is able to celebrate!

summer winterToday is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. It's the first day of summer, which is exciting because it means that there are still 2 months of nice weather ahead, but I know the days will start getting shorter tomorrow, and in a couple of months it will be really noticeable that fall is just around the corner.

Of course, for those of you in the southern hemisphere, today is the shortest day. Tomorrow you can awake knowing that you made it over the dark hump and that the days are soon going to be noticeably longer.

I think you have it a bit tougher than us northerners because our winter solstice is December 21. Christmas and New Year's do help to break things up. But then again, maybe you feel sorry for us that we can't enjoy the nice weather at Christmastime!

Whether the sun is coming or going for you, I pray that God's face of blessing will shine on you wherever you are.

Which brings me to today's video share. I don't know if you enjoy watching talent shows like America's Got Talent or not, but I sure do. This past week, the story of one of the singers on the show impacted me and millions of other people. Before you watch that video, however, please read the singer's guest post on Ann Voscamp's website. The written words of Jane Marczewski (Nightbirde) are just as impactful as the ones she sings.

Sunday greetings everyone!

kindnessIf the saying, "The best things in life are free" is true, kindness has to be one of the best things in life.

It costs nothing to be kind to someone. Gentle words of encouragement or appreciation come at the same zero price as not correcting or chastising someone who clearly knows they made a mistake. Going over to talk to a person who is desperately alone in a crowd, or listening to another person's story and then not telling the better one that happened to you, cannot be bought.

The burdens lifted, hope restored, loneliness chased away, and self-worth felt because of such acts, and many more like them, is unmeasurable - especially when you stop to consider that those results may occur simultaneously in the giver and receiver, with unpredictable, ongoing results for both.

That said, there is also be a great price to being kind. The sheer act of trying to see life through another's eyes requires a challenging self-emptying and vanquishing of all the conditions that stand in the way of our being and acting unconditionally toward others. And if we are successful in that, we may then have to invest further creativity, time, money, and energy, into following through because of what we have seen, lest we turn away and end up being unkind.

This is why kindness is also dangerous, because to pursue it guarantees we are going to be changed one way or the other.

Today's video share is of an act that is all of the above and took many kind people to pull off.
