Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

I have been blessed to be working with a business coach in recent weeks. I wasn't really looking for one, and had anyone asked if I needed to talk to one I might not have answered yes. Apparently, because of what seems like divinely organized circumstances, it would seem God noticed I needed help and skipped asking if I wanted or needed one and provide me one anyway.

Last Friday, during our time together, I was explaining to him about "Chicken Thursday" and how many people think of me when they see chickens and send then me chicken pictures, cartoons and stories. (BTW, in school there were a few kids that looked at me and saw a chicken.) The whole thing has become a lot of fun for me and it seems many of you enjoy it too.

Well, until today maybe, lol. This week D. McCordic (who hit a home run by sharing that Dave Coverly Cartoon a few weeks ago) emailed me and shared a link to what one might describe a "chicken video."

Before you watch it, I want to apologize for what this may do to your ears, your brain, and maybe even to your day. I put the blame fully on her for sending me something she knows full well I don't have the taste, discernment, or self control to not pass along.

I would also like to apologize to the Pachelbel family for taking part in the mauling of the beautiful musical piece their ancestor composed. Johann Pachelbel passed away at the age of 52 in early March of 1706. While I am sure many viewed his death as having come too soon, we now know it was a blessing that he was taken before he could hear this video. Surely, if he were alive today, he would want to shoot me out of a canon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khOfSVULtsU

jupiterSunday greetings everyone!

Thank you to Brian P. who alerted me to the source of the final item in last Chicken Thursday's "Homilies to Live By." It is originally from the 'Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series by Douglas Adams.

It's no secret that I enjoy seeing pictures of things in space. This week my video share is a NASA photo compilation of a flyby (I checked and it's not a bee-by) of Jupiter.

I recently learned that a day lasts 9 hours and 56 minutes on Jupiter. That means that with a circumference of 439,264 km, the outer "edge" of this gas giant is going at 44,221 kilometers per hour or 27,477 miles per hour! Of course, these are all my own rough calculations. Also, having never been there I had to calculate using information provided online.

I am sure you won't be surprised to hear that my favorite thing about Jupiter is that it features has a huge storm in my favourite colour!

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

There is often a chicken focus on Chicken Thursday but today I need to address a controversy which has arisen in the Cybersalt world. I'm talking about "beegate."

On Sunday I shared a picture I took of a bee on a sunflower in my backyard. However, Marvin P. emailed me and let me know that that was no bee, but rather it was "a syrphid fly (hover fly) to be exact." Then Andra D. emailed me and also pointed out that this was a fly and that it, like some other insects, was pretending to be a bee (or not a bee - that is the question) in order to deter potential predators.

Now, both Marvin and Andra were very kind in the way they corrected me so please, nobody rush out and burn their houses down. I know some of you are very protective of me but I'm OK.

I blame my parents for this whole mess. Obviously their telling me about the birds and the bees stopped well short of full disclosure. Sure, I got the part about a mommy and daddy having a special hug, but obviously they sent me out into the world on my own, ill-prepared for understanding important non-sexual aspects of it. I'm not bitter, though, because there are still things I haven't told them.

And don't worry, this mistake won't stop me from sharing pictures either. Here's one I took, earlier today, of a duck in a pond near our house.

Sunday greetings everyone - and happy Canadian Thanksgiving in Canuckland!

This past Chicken Thursday I discovered that last Sunday's mailing never went out (I stopped one click short of "send" apparently.) So the rest of today's news is really last weeks news, except the last few days have been rainier, so there is some new news for you!

----------------------------

We have been having some really nice fall weather at Cybersalt World Headquarters.

Today I took some pictures in our backyard and I thought I'd share my favourite one of the bunch. It's of a bee on a sunflower our daughter gave us some months ago.

The image will appear small in the newsletter, but you can click on it for a large version. (Also, today's video share is further below.)

Today's video share answers the question, "How mad do you have to be to want to kill Billy Graham?" This is a great story that many would say was about God triumphing over evil, but I think it's an example of God winning over brokenness.

Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Last week I said I'd have a surprise for you this week and since it is now this week here it is!

Cybersaltine D. McCordic recently emailed me a fun chicken themed cartoon and I thought it would be a great share on some Chicken Thursday. However, the cartoon was copyrighted. This would not stop some people from using it, but it's important to me to keep Cybersalt totally legal and above board (plus I have been told I have delicate features and would not do well in prison.)

Accordingly, I reached out to the cartoonist, Dave Coverly of the cartoon strip "Speed Bump," told him the story of Chicken Thursday and asked if I could use the cartoon in a future mailing. He graciously said, "Yes" and waived the regular usage fee!

So let's show him some love as a thank-you for joining in on our Chicken Thursday fun. Here are some links I selected to check out more about him and his work:
