Cybersalt News

Sunday greetings everyone!

After 90 Years The Loch Ness Monster Debate Is OverI have received an early Christmas gift: the gift of slowing down. Unbeknownst to me, I received this gift on October 30th when I jumped off the tailgate of my brother-in-law's pickup truck, spraining my ankle. It was getting better, but last Sunday I reinjured it and on Friday finally took the time to see a doctor, who sent me for an x-ray. The results were no breaks and nothing out of place: it's just a bad sprain.

The last couple of Christmases, Grandma Cybersalt and I have tried to be intentional about not overbooking our holiday events and activities, so it's not that I needed something to slow my celebrating down. However, I have been in need of slowing down and getting more work done, so I am going to use this as an opportunity to park my cane at my desk and tackle and pursue some of the exciting things that have been developing at Cybersalt.

Speaking of giving something a rest, today's video share makes a good argument at putting the Loch Ness Monster mystery to bed.

Homework Surprise

child handsMy daughter's third-grade teacher had assigned the children to write a story titled "My Biggest Surprise."

Not until the end of the school year did we see Marina's work.

It read: "I got up this morning and I ran into Mommy and Daddy's bed and hopped in. But it wasn't Mommy at all. It was Mrs. Del Campo!"

What her essay neglected to say was was the very important detail that we had called Mrs. Del Campo late at night to stay with our children while I took my wife to the hospital to have our third child.

Aches, Pains, and Medical Tests

An old white man sitting in the shade at an outdoor picnic area.Thought I'd let my doctor check me,
'Cause I didn't feel quite right. . .
All those aches and pains annoyed me
And I couldn't sleep at night.

He could find no real disorder
But he wouldn't let it rest.
What with Medicare and Blue Cross,
We would do a couple tests.

To the hospital he sent me
Though I didn't feel that bad.
He arranged for them to give me
Every test that could be had.

I was fluoroscoped and cystoscoped,
My aging frame displayed.
Stripped, on an ice cold table,
While my gizzards were x-rayed.

I was checked for worms and parasites,
For fungus and the crud,
While they pierced me with long needles
Taking samples of my blood.

Doctors came to check me over,
Probed and pushed and poked around,
And to make sure I was living
They then wired me for sound.

They have finally concluded,
Their results have filled a page.
What I have will someday kill me;
My affliction is OLD AGE!

Is That My Grandfather’s Hand?

Close up of a grandfather's hands. This past week, I thought of my maternal grandfather. I haven't thought of him for a long time because he died over 50 years ago. I'm not sure what inspired me to think about my old grandpa.

As a youngster, I used to spend summers with him on his farm. He owned a farm up in the mountains of Pennsylvania and had dairy cattle and hogs. I spent so many summers with him on that amazing farm.
