A single yellow-petalled flower on a long stem, drooping face down, blurry green background behind.I awoke on the morning of my birthday with thoughts of a brand-new day before me, one that was filled with special adventures.

I lay in bed, thinking about the blessings God had poured into my life, before reading my morning devotional. I have been “surprised with joy” at a stage in my life where I wasn’t looking for momentous changes.

God has His own plan, and over these many years, a verse that I often remind myself of is, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are God’s ways higher than ours, and His thoughts than ours” (Isaiah 55:9).

Yes, God has His perfect plan for each of our lives. Every day is a page-turner, an empty canvas just waiting to be explored.

Each day is brand new, having 24 hours, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds. Every moment is original and fresh, filled with unlimited possibilities. Key questions to ask upon awakening may be: “What will I discover today?” “How will God use me?” “Who will I bless today, or be blessed by?” “How will God grow me?” “What challenges might I overcome?” “What new opportunities may cross my path?”

One of my favourite Scripture passages is “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for Him.' The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD” (Lamentations 3: 22-26).

These verses give such comfort and security as we begin our day. They proclaim God’s great love for us and assure us of His presence as we journey through the moments.

This passage confirms His never-ending compassion and faithfulness. We are told that these gifts are new every morning. God daily gives us what He knows we need as we wait on Him. God is good, and we can place our hope in Him as we seek His face.

These verses also remind us how important it is to begin each day quietly before our Lord, never rushing ahead of Him, but waiting in His presence.

We have reason to celebrate more than once a year... much more. Each day is a celebration when we walk with our Lord. Each moment is a miracle of time and grace. Each moment is a gift given to us from our faithful Father. Who knows, today there may be a moment when an opportunity will present itself to point someone to Jesus. Now what a moment that would be!

You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love. - Henry Drummond
