"Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of Hosts."
- 1 Samuel 17:45
Young and old are always thrilled by the story of David and Goliath.
For 40 days the giant Goliath had defied not only the armies of Israel,
but Israel's God as well. Putting his trust in the LORD, young David
accepted the challenge. They met on the field of battle, and David
felled the giant with a well directed stone from his sling.
We too are . . .
"Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of Hosts."

We too are challenged by giant Goliaths. St. Paul names some of them, saying that we must fight against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. These goliaths would destroy our faith, seduce us into misbelief, despair, and other great shame and vice.
Christian friends, With our own might nothing can be done against them. However when we trust in God and His Word, we too can become giant killers. Jesus showed us what to do. When He was tempted in the wilderness, He used the hard "It is written" which was too much for Satan. We too can defeat these modern Goliaths if we will take the Word of God as stones in our sling of faith. It is still true: "One little word can fell him."
When to the Father we appeal
For power to crush our foe,
He gives His all-sufficient grace
That we His strength may know.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - We may face situations beyond our resources, but never beyond God's reserves.
