"I will praise  Thee;  for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Thy works and that my soul knoweth right well."
- Psalm 139:14

Epiphany places a tremendous importance upon man in the scheme of the universe. God's beloved Son becomes man for our sake.

The Psalmist says: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." When God created man, He formed him out of the dust of the ground and thus in material and structure related him to the animal world. But he also breathed into him His own image and thus related him to Himself.

Man sinned. But there still is something . . .

Man sinned. But there still is something wonderful in him. One evening two astronomers were studying the sky through a telescope. One remarked: "Compared with all this, man is but an insignificant speck."  "Yes," the other replied, "but man is still the astronomer."

Jesus saw something vastly greater in man than the mind which has given to us the marvels of modern science. He said: "What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?"  He saw that soul lost in sin, doomed to eternal punishment in hell. Infinite love and mercy, therefore, moved Him to become one of us. He bore our guilt. He carried our sorrows. We are now children of God through faith in Him.

Christian friends,  We as believers can say in an infinitely larger sense than the unbeliever, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Recognizing that you are created in God's image and are not just an animal, how will you live today?

God climaxed His wondrous creation,
Making man in His image sublime;
And granted him power and dominion,
And for aye in His presence to shine.
