"Sir, what must I do be saved?" Acts 16:30        

Paul and Silas were in prison because of their preaching. They had been beaten cruelly. Yet in the middle of the night they sang praises to God. The LORD shook the prison walls, opened the doors and by a miracle the chains fell off their hands and feet, so that they were free. The keeper of the prison would have killed himself if Paul had not stopped him, for he thought the prisoners had fled. When Paul restrained him, he asked, trembling in fear: "Sirs, what must I do be saved?" Paul then answered: "Believe on the LORD Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house." Similarly Jesus had been asked one day while at Capernaum: "What shall we do that we might work the works of God?" And He had answered: "This is the work of God that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent" John 6:28,29      

Natural man is not always ready to accept so simple a way to salvation. We Christians at times might ask: "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" We want to earn our own way. Our pride is comforted when we feel that we have done something to merit  God's favor. But we are wrong in wanting to earn salvation, for God's says: "Believe, and thou shalt be saved."      

Christian friends, God's Holy Spirit works saving faith in our hearts so that even our faith becomes a work of God, and not something that we do. If God does everything for our salvation, we can be sure that nothing is overlooked and that nothing can separate us from His love.  

Tell the sweet sweet story of Christ and His love,                                           Tell of His power to forgive;                                                                                       Others will trust Him if only you prove                                                              True, every moment you live.
