Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

F2C the race RECORD 2014 WCh Wloclawek 628We're enjoying a visit with our son who is here for two days and a night doing a bunch of yard care and fence fixing for us - willingly! I note "willingly" because in his teens there was much less yard care done and mush less "willing" as well. It's all good, though, because he was still a great kid back then and he is a great man now - independent of what he did/does around here!

Today's video share is both describable and beyond description. I get dizzy just thinking about trying this.

Quote #2394

The folded hands of what is assumed to be a Buddhist monk, since only the hands, are visible in the brick-red fabric.A man went to a monastery for a retreat. The monk who showed him to his room said this,

“If you need anything, let us know and we’ll teach you how to live without it.”

When Help Calls

A middle-aged woman walking along a street with a pink phone to her ear.A frazzled Mrs. Melnik sprang to the telephone when it rang and listened with relief to the kindly voice in her ear.

"How are you, darling?" it said. "What kind of a day are you having?"

"Oh, mother," said the housewife, breaking into bitter tears, "I've had such a bad day. The baby won't eat and the washing machine broke down. I haven't had a chance to go shopping, and besides, I've just sprained my ankle and I have to hobble around. On top of that, the house is a mess and I'm supposed to have two couples to dinner tonight."

The mother was shocked and was at once all sympathy. "Oh, darling," she said, "sit down, relax, and close your eyes. I'll be over in half an hour. I'll do your shopping, clean up the house, and cook your dinner for you. I'll feed the baby and I'll call a repairman I know who'll be at your house to fix the washing machine promptly. Now stop crying. I'll do everything. In fact, I'll even call Morty at the office and tell him he ought to come home and help out for once."

"Morty?" said the housewife. "Who's Morty?"

"Why, Morty! Your husband! ....Is this 816-555-1374?

"No, this is 816-555-1375."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I have the wrong number."

There was a short pause and the housewife said, "Does this mean you're not coming over?"

Sparkle with Joy

A bright yellow sunflower against a green background of blurred plans and other sunflowers. There are times and seasons in life where we may not feel very joyful. However, in Scripture, the word joy is referenced 242 times. Joy is listed second in the fruit of the Spirit, after the word love.

A favourite verse of mine is, "The joy of the LORD is my strength," taken from the book of Nehemiah.

In the story, the Israelites were listening to the Word of the Lord, bowing down in worship with their faces to the ground. They were weeping as they listened to the reading. In Chapter 8, Nehemiah said to them: "This day is sacred to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law. Nehemiah said, 'Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.' Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them."
