Cybersalt News

Turkey Thursday 2021Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

There were no grammatical errors in last Thursday's post. I actually had Grandma Cybersalt proofread it before sending it. I am not surprised at the successful effect - she is the secret to a lot of things going smoother in my life.

Speaking of grammar, I want to give a shout out to J. Bernhard for the very kind note and suggestion she sent last week: "Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. When there are other real words, the spell-checker doesn't catch them. Personally, I think you should thank all the kind folk who exercised a little self-control and did NOT point out your error. It's not that we don't see them, it's just that we make them, too, and know everyone deserves some grace. Occasionally, anyway."

The above is great advice and I do thank all you kind folk who have not pointed out my errors. And if you have pointed them out, don't feel bad - I enjoy the fun of acknowledging and playing with them.

Today's video share is proof that you don't always have to work harder to achieve the success you are looking for!

'Twas the Night Before Finals

student1'Twas the night before finals,
And all through the college,
The students were praying
For last minute knowledge.

Most were quite sleepy,
But none touched their beds,
While visions of essays
Danced in their heads.

Out in the sports field,
There were some throwing,
In hope that some exercise
Would get their brains going.

In my own apartment,
I had been pacing,
Dreading all those exams
I soon would be facing.

My roommate was speechless,
His nose in his books,
And my comments to him
Drew unfriendly looks.

I drained all the coffee,
And brewed a new pot,
No longer caring
That my nerves were shot.

I stared at my notes,
But my thoughts were all muddy,
My eyes went a’ blur,
I just couldn't study.

"Some pizza might help,"
I said with a shiver,
But each place I called
Refused to deliver.

I'd pretty much concluded
Life is unfair and cruel,
Since our futures all depend
On grades made in school.

When all of a sudden,
Our door opened wide,
And Patron Saint Put-It-Off
Ambled inside.

Her spirit was careless,
Her manner was mellow,
She looked at the mess
And started to bellow:

"Why should us students
Make such a fuss,
About what those teachers
Toss out to us?"

"On Cliff Notes! On Crib Notes!
On Last Year's Exams!
On Wingit and Slingit,
And Last Minute Crams!"

Her message delivered,
She vanished from sight,
But we heard her laughing
Outside in the night.

"Your teachers won't flunk you,
So just do your best.
Happy Finals to All,
And to All, a good test."

Self-Consciousness

shoe lacesIn high school I was always self-conscious about my height.

Once, a lifeguard asked me out. I had never stood next to him and didn't know how tall he was, so the night of the date I took out two pairs of shoes, one with heels, one flat. I arranged with my brother to answer the door, compare his height with my dates, and run upstairs to let me know which pair of shoes to wear.

When heard the doorbell, I waited. Then my brother showed up and told me what I didn't want to hear: "Go bare-footed."
