"Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee."
- Acts 3:6
Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for prayer. At the gate
they met a beggar asking for alms. Peter tells this beggar: "Silver and
gold have I none." In other words, Peter and John were penniless, yet
they blessed this poor invalid. Yes they were poor in material things
but rich toward God. There are gifts more valuable than silver and
gold. The best gifts of life are not to be bought with money.
"Such as I have I give." Somewhere in this world there is a place of
service for me; somewhere there is a gate with its unfortunate to whom
I can give that which is most helpful and best for him; somewhere there
is man or woman or child whom I . . .

"Such as I have I give." Somewhere in this world there is a place of service for me; somewhere there is a gate with its unfortunate to whom I can give that which is most helpful and best for him; somewhere there is man or woman or child whom I can make rich without money, buy sharing Christ with them. That's what St. Paul did. He shared Christ, and as a result, wherever he went, hearts were captured and lives were ennobled by the Savior's sanctifying influence. That's what Peter and John did; that's what men and women of God have been doing for centuries, and souls without number have been made enternally rich.
Christian friends, whether we consider ourselves rich or poor, our love for the LORD should provide us with all the reason we need to be generous in our giving.
Incline our hearts toward giving
That we may thus express
To Thee, the great provider,
Our love and thankfulness.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Christ is our reason for living and for giving.
