Two of the outstanding hymns which flowed from the heart of Dr. Martin
Luther were "A Mighty Fortress is our God" and "From Depths of Woe I
Cry to Thee" (which you hear).
The Psalm 130, which inspired the latter hymn is the nearest approach
in the OT to ch 8 of the Epistle to the Romans. Which shows what took
place in the heart of Luther. He was led out of indescribable depths of
distress to see the plenteous redemption which is in Jesus, our Savior.
Luther wrote this hymn in 1523. Several months later a poor old weaver
sang it in the streets of Magdeburg and offered it for sale at a price
that suited the poorest. He was cast into prison by the burgomaster,
but 200 citizens marched to the. . .

When Luther was at the Castle of Coburg and suffered much from inner conflict said to his friends come and let us sing,"From Depths of Woe I cry to Thee."
