I would like to go with the OT lesson v. 5 today.

"The LORD brought Abram outside and said, "Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

When we look into the selectiveness which the Christians attribute to God we find in it none of that favoritism which we were afraid of. The chosen people are chosen not for their own sake, certainly not for their own honor or pleasure, but for the sake of the unchosen. Abraham is told that in his seed, the chosen nation, all nations shall be . . .

Abraham is told that in his seed, the chosen nation, all nations shall be blest. That nation has been chosen to bear a heavy burden. Their sufferings are great: but, as Isaiah recognized, their sufferings heal others. On the finally selected Woman falls the utmost depth of maternal anguish. Her Son, the incarnate God, is a man of sorrows: the one Man into whom Deity descended, the one Man who can be lawfully adored, is preeminent for suffering.   C.S. Lewis.

As Abraham contemplated the vast numbers of stars, God said, "So shall your descendants be." I believe that was more than a promise of large numbers. To me it implies that if God could create and maintain all those stars, He would have no trouble fulfilling His promise that Abraham would have a son in his old age. And Abraham got the picture, for we read that "he believed in the LORD" Gen. 15:6

Christian friends, let us consider often the wonders of creation. It's a good way to strengthen our faith in the promises of the Creator.

If God's creation helps you see
What wonders He can do,
Then trust the many promises
That He has given you.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY -  He who hold the stars in space will not let go of His promises to us.
