Long ago lived a seaman named Captain Bravo.  He was a manly-man who showed no fear in facing his enemies.  One day, while sailing the seven seas, a look-out spotted a pirate ship and the crew became frantic.

Captain Bravo bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt." The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt and whilst wearing the bright frock the captain led his mates into battle and defeated the pirates.

Later on, the look-out again spotted not one but two pirate ships.  The captain again howled for his red shirt and once again vanquished the pirates.  That evening, all the men sat around on the deck recounting the day's triumphs and one of the them asked the captain: "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before battle?"

The captain replied, "If I am wounded in the attack, the shirt will not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to resist, unafraid."

All of the men sat in silence and marvelled at the courage of such a manly man.  As dawn came the next morning, the look-out once again spotted not one, not two, but TEN pirates ships approaching.  The rank and file all stared at the captain and waited for his usual reply.

Captain Bravo calmly shouted, "Get me my brown pants."

After being with his blind date all evening, the man couldn't take another minute with her. Earlier, he had secretly arranged to have a friend call him to the phone so he would have an excuse to leave if something like this happened.

When he returned to the table, he lowered his eyes, put on a grim expression and said, "I have some bad news. My grandfather just died."

"Thank goodness," his date replied. "If yours hadn't, mine would have had to!"

The little old lady seated herself right behind the bus driver.  Every ten minutes or so she'd pipe up, "Have we reached Oriskany Falls yet, sonny?"

"No, lady, not yet.  I'll let you know," he replied, time after time.

The hours passed, the old woman kept asking for Oriskany Falls, and finally the little town came into view.  Sighing with relief, the driver slammed on the brakes, pulled over and called out, "This is where you get out, lady."

"Is this Oriskany Falls?"

"YES!" he bellowed.  "Get out!"

"Oh, I'm going all the way to Albany, sonny," she explained sweetly.  "It's just that my daughter told me that when we got this far, I should take my blood pressure pill."

A State Police colleague of mine once received a call from a woman who asked him how to baste a turkey. After a stunned moment, he, being a fairly good cook, described the procedure. Then he asked, "But why would you call the state police to find out how to baste a turkey?"

There was only a slight hesitation before she replied, "Well, you knew, didn't you?" and hung up.

The local high school has a policy that the parent's must call the school if the student is to be absent for the day.  Kelly, deciding to bunk and go to the mall with her friends waited till her parent's had left for work and called the school herself.  This is the actual conversation of the telephone call.

Kelly: "Hi, I'm calling to report that Kelly so-and-so is unable to make it to school today because she is ill.

Secretary at high school: "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.  I'll note her absence.  Who is this calling?"

Kelly: "This is my mother."

It's dedicated to the memory of Maggie - Pastor Tim and family's dog. The SPCA rescued Maggie from Manitoba's Red River flood in 1996 and brought her to British Columbia where she had two short term owners before becoming a part of the Davis household where she preferred adults over kids, picked and ate fruit from trees in the backyard, and very rarely went into water at the beach.
